Worker Who Used Unsafe Ladder Gets $705,000

01/03/2013

Four construction contractor firms have been ordered to contribute $705,000 to a worker who fell from an unsafe ladder at the Canberra International Airport. A concreter, was descending a scaffolding structure when the ladder he was on slipped, causing a serious knee injury, which has prevented him from working since the accident in 2002.

The court concluded the injured worker was not contributory negligent in failing to personally check the ladder was secured in place before using it. The court concluded the construction principal contractor and scaffolding contractors were primarily responsible for ensuring a safe work place and safe equipment.
