Government Ditches AS 4801

31/10/2014

Employers will no longer be required to obtain AS 4801 certification before tendering for Commonwealth construction projects, under a plan to free up the Federal Safety Commissioner to target unsafe companies.

Federal Employment Minister Eric Abetz and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister Josh Frydenberg said in a joint statement that the current prerequisite for companies to be certified under AS 4801 before joining the Accreditation Scheme is duplicative and will be removed on 1st January next year.

The scheme’s safety criteria are “far more rigorous” than those in the Standard, the statement said.
