Victorian OHS Regulations reform

Victorian OHS Regulations reform

In last month’s News we informed you that the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations were under review.

WorkSafe Victoria advised that the review aims to evaluate and improve the existing regulations. The draft regulations and Regulatory Impact Statement are expected to go out for public comment for a three month period in mid-2016 and the new regulations will commence in June 2017.

Although WorkSafe have informed that they are not intending to align the regulations with the National Model Work Health Safety Regulations (Model Regulations), they are intending to adopt the Hazardous Chemicals section from the Model Regulations. This means that Victoria’s chemical classification and labelling criteria will be consistent with the rest of the world using the Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

To learn more about the GHS for chemicals and what it means for your business, see details of our next training session below.
