National WHS manslaughter laws

Safe Work Australia have agreed the scope for review of the national model Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws. The review will start early next year with the findings by the end of 2018. The review will include whether penalties and enforceable undertakings "are effective and sufficient to deter non-compliance with the legislation".

The new Industrial Manslaughter Offence, introduced in Queensland this year, with maximum $10 million fines and 20-year jail terms, is flagged to be adopted nationally .
