WorkSafe Site Visits: Falling Objects

During May, WorkSafe Victoria inspectors will visit construction sites with a focus on falling or dropped object hazards—still a leading cause of injury in construction.

Key risks:

  • Poor containment (gaps in screens, netting, or lacking toeboards)

  • Incorrectly suspended loads on plant

  • Unsecured or poorly stored materials

  • Wind and weather impacts

Expected controls:

  • Enclose high-risk work areas

  • Cover penetrations

  • Provide overhead protection

  • Use safe scaffolds, EWPs, and similar plant correctly.
