July Safety Networking

At our July networking event on Contractor Inductions, we discussed practical ways to improve how contractors are prepared for work. Many of us used online platforms to efficiently induct workers and contractors before they arrive at site.  A key message from the group was that inductions should be relevant, clear, and easy to understand, focusing on the information contractors genuinely need to work safely at our premises. Some of us have even completed inductions that were fun!

‍Participants agreed that lengthy inductions filled with excessive text are often ineffective. ‍

Instead, the most successful inductions are:

• Concise,

• Site-specific, and

• Use simple language to communicate key hazards, safety requirements, and responsibilities.

The group emphasised that a good induction is not about the amount of information provided, but about ensuring contractors understand the critical safety messages before work begins.
