SWA Replaces LTI with WCIFR

Safe Work Australia (SWA) adopted “workers compensation injury frequency rate” (WCIFR) last year as the main dashboard indicator of safety performance.

Whilst initially this sounded over-simplistic, and that we were losing the long-time safety measure of lost-time injury frequency rate (LTIFR), or more recently popular total recordable rate (TRIFR), the WCIFR dashboard provides lots of valuable information.

Most businesses like to monitor their safety performance, and benchmark it with other similar businesses and against industry best-practice.

The WCIFR utilises the national workers compensation claims data and therefore provides the best opportunity to benchmark all claim types including; lost time injuries, all industries, by occupation, or selected industries, and subdivision. This dashboard provides the best possible database for benchmarking safety performance in Australia.
